BarndoBible (“we”, “us”) is a website operated by Killette’s Mule, LLC, a Texas limited liability company. We publish barndominium planning, cost and build guides at barndobible.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to describe what actually happens on this site rather than list everything a website could conceivably do.
Questions: contact@barndobible.com
The short version
We are a content site. We do not sell your personal information. We collect three kinds of data: anonymous analytics about how pages are used, an email address if you choose to give us one, and the standard technical records any web server keeps. We use affiliate links, and we tell you when we do.
What we collect and why
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are read, how people arrive, and what they look for. This records pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP, usually city level), device and browser type, and referring site.
Google processes this on our behalf. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them through our cookie banner. If you decline, we do not receive this data about your visit.
We do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles, and we do not run ad retargeting pixels.
If you subscribe to emails
If you request our free Starter Kit or subscribe to build updates, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name. We use these to send the resource you asked for and periodic updates about barndominium planning and building.
This is handled by MailPoet, and messages are delivered through SendLayer. Both process data on our behalf.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately, and we keep a record of the unsubscribe so we do not email you again by mistake. You can ask us to delete your record entirely at contact@barndobible.com.
We do not sell, rent, or share our email list.
If you leave a comment
Comments are open on our articles. When you leave one we collect what you type in the form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, which help detect spam.
An anonymised hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. If you have one, your picture is publicly visible next to your comment.
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognise follow-up comments automatically. Ask us and we will delete yours.
If you use a contact form
Form submissions reach us by email and are stored in the site so we can respond. We keep them only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up.
Technical and security records
Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, user agent) as part of normal operation and security.
We use login-protection software that records failed login attempts, including the IP address and the username tried. This exists to stop brute-force attacks on the site. These records are short-lived and are not used for anything else.
We take routine backups of the site and its database, which necessarily include any personal data stored in it at the time.
Media
If you upload an image to this site, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract that data from images on the site.
Cookies
We use cookies for three things:
- Necessary — remembering your cookie choice, keeping forms and logins working.
These are always on because the site cannot function without them.
- Analytics — Google Analytics, only after you accept.
- Convenience — if you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email and
website so you do not retype them. These last one year.
Our cookie banner is provided by CookieAdmin, which loads from cookieadmin.net. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the cookie icon on any page.
If you log in as a site author, WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in and remember screen preferences; login cookies last two days, or two weeks with “Remember Me”.
Third parties your browser contacts
Loading our pages causes your browser to contact these services, which means they receive your IP address:
- Google — Analytics, and Google Fonts for typefaces
- Gravatar (Automattic) — comment profile pictures
- CookieAdmin — the consent banner
Embedded content from other sites (videos, images, articles) behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site, and those sites may set their own cookies and track your interaction with that content.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site is funded.
When you click an affiliate link you leave our site, and the merchant or affiliate network may set cookies to attribute the referral. That activity is governed by their privacy policies, not this one. We do not receive your name, address or payment details from these purchases — typically only aggregate reports of whether a referral converted.
We only recommend products we would use ourselves. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.
How long we keep things
- Comments — indefinitely, unless you ask us to delete them
- Email subscribers — until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion
- Contact form messages — as long as needed to handle your enquiry
- Analytics — retained by Google under our account settings, currently 14 months
- Security and server logs — short-term, for security purposes only
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you
- give you a copy of it
- correct it if it is wrong
- delete it
Email contact@barndobible.com and we will respond. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you are in the UK, EU, or a US state with its own privacy law, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Children
This site is aimed at adults planning building projects. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use data you have already given us will be announced to email subscribers.
